Tour Itinerary
Stop 1: Departure from Sofia
Departure at 07:00 from the car park next to Vasil Levski Monument, in front of the Embassy of Slovakia.
Stop 2: The Seven Rila Lakes Cirque (Approx. 4 Hours)
The tour begins with an early transfer to Rila, followed by a brief cable car ride to the Seven Rila Lakes Cirque. The glacier lakes are at between 2100 and 2500m/6800 and 8200ft above sea level, with names fitting their shapes, like Babreka (the Kidney), Okoto (the Eye), and Salzata (the Teardrop). Depending on your fitness level, we can either walk the whole trek around all lakes or make the stroll shorter.
Stop 3: Rila Monastery UNESCO Complex (Approx. 1 Hour)
Admire the impressive Rila Monastery (UNESCO) — its architecture and frescoes present the apogee of Bulgarian Renaissance art. Enjoy an approximately 1-hour guided tour of the most treasured monuments in the inner yard and the Monastery museum (optional), learning fascinating facts about the biggest Bulgarian monastery complex.
Stop 4: Return to Sofia
Return to the starting point of the tour at approximately 19:30.

- Food & Drinks: Although there are two huts on our way for basic food (beans soup, meatballs, tea), we advise bringing a lunch pack from Sofia as the schedule is tight.
- Physical Difficulty: The hiking route is moderately arduous with brief steep inclines. Good walking boots are mandatory (no sandals/flip-flops). Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnant travelers.
- Chairlift Ticket: Approximately 16 EUR, only cash payments in euro accepted (not included in tour price).
- Seasonal / Weather Advisory: May and June tours depend heavily on weather and chairlift operations. Wet, slippery terrain and snow may be present; adequate equipment (trekking boots, waterproof clothes, warm layers) is required.
